A contact is flagged as overdue if it's been 30+ days since your last interaction (email or call).
For cold emails (first outreach with no reply), you should follow up sooner — aim for 10–14 days between each follow-up.

Contacts That Need a Follow-up
Contacts Needing Follow-up
Master the art of networking with these proven strategies and best practices.
- Take paper notes on every call so you can reference specifics later.
- Come prepared with questions, but prioritize follow-ups so the conversation feels natural.
- Start light for 1–3 minutes (how they are, how they like their city, etc.).
- Do not let them take over the entire call—proactively transition into your background early.
- Do not send first-touch emails Friday–Sunday.
- Do not send emails before 9:00am or after 5:00pm.
- Schedule-send emails with slightly "random" timestamps (e.g., 9:02 or 3:24).
- Always attach a typo-free resume, titled clearly.
- Put your name in the subject line so they can find your thread easily.
- Send the calendar invite immediately once a time is agreed.
- Use Google Calendar (not Apple Calendar).
- Title format: "Their Name / Your Name Chat."
- Set Location = their phone number, add them as a guest, and remove the Google Meet link.
- Send thank-you emails every time, ideally within a few hours.
- Always end the call by asking for a referral and reinforce that ask in the thank-you email.
- Maintain momentum with your top 2–3 contacts per firm every 1–2 months.
- If they don't pick up, wait 10–15 minutes and email asking to reschedule.
- If no response to email, wait 7–10 days and follow up; after two follow-ups, pause.
- When introduced by email, reply-all, move introducer to BCC, keep referral in CC.
- Don't limit yourself to one alumni channel—network across schools and cities for unexpected introductions.
